Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying the ointment.
Gently cleanse the affected area with mild soap and water. Pat dry with a clean towel. Squeeze a small amount of Zovirax ointment onto a clean fingertip or cotton swab. A pea-sized amount is usually sufficient for a small area. Apply a thin layer of ointment directly to each individual blister or affected area. Avoid rubbing it in. Apply the ointment several times a day, as directed by your doctor or the product label. Typical recommendations are every three to four hours while awake. Continue using the ointment until all blisters have crusted over and healed. This usually takes about 7-10 days. Keep the area clean and dry to prevent infection. Avoid scratching or picking at the blisters. If you notice any signs of infection (increased pain, swelling, redness, pus), consult your doctor immediately.
Remember to follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. They can provide personalized advice based on your specific needs and the severity of your chicken pox.
- Store the ointment at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep the ointment out of reach of children. Do not use the ointment if it’s past its expiration date.
