Dosage and Administration of Intravenous Lasix

Intravenous Lasix (furosemide) dosages vary widely depending on the patient’s condition and response. Begin with a slow intravenous injection of 20-40 mg. Observe the patient closely for response.

For rapid diuresis in situations like pulmonary edema, higher initial doses up to 100 mg may be administered intravenously. This should be given slowly over 1-2 minutes to minimize adverse effects.

Subsequent doses are determined by the patient’s response. If the desired diuresis isn’t achieved, subsequent doses can be given, but should not exceed 100 mg at any one time.

Maximum daily dose should not exceed 600 mg in general, although higher doses might be used under strict medical supervision for specific situations. Always consult with a physician before exceeding recommended dosages.

Administer intravenously by slow injection. Rapid injection can cause hypotension. Infusion into a large vein is preferred to minimize irritation. Monitor blood pressure and electrolyte levels during and after administration.
